ok reading further they start bringing up actually relevant points that do support their claim. im not gonna copy all of that but i will respond with: it is still a book about the greek gods and is based on greek legends. idk if you forgot but greeks are white europeans. legends about demigods tend to have exceptionalism as part of their main themes. often explicitly. yea unless you're writing some really sanitized story, basing it on greek legends will probably make it at least a little problematic.

That contrapoints twilight video also reminded me of a point that a lot of romance novel defenders often make that “you just don’t understand the point of romance novels” when you point out problematic elements in them.

Yes there are some people who think that smut and romance and problematic concepts in media shouldn’t exist. However, saying that any critique of problematic elements of these genres is unwarranted I feel like is just as reductive.

Like yes, Edward in twilight watching Bella in her sleep is a fantasy about a kind and strong man protecting you and most people reading it don’t literally want a vampire to watch them sleep.

However, Twilight is still a series that completely and totally lacks self awareness with a protagonist that is consistently and constantly afraid of her boyfriend. And although fiction is not reality and most people are aware of this, fiction can also play a role in shaping reality. Fiction can reinforce cultural norms or cause one to question those cultural norms. And although I’m not of the opinion that enjoying “problematic” media is wrong, I do think it is worth interrogating.

The “it’s not that deep bro” argument doesn’t really hold water when it comes to critique. Just because something is simple, popular, and lacks self awareness doesn’t mean that it’s not worth some level of deeper analysis and criticism.

I dislike how Adrien's character is just a massive macguffin at this point. If he isn't going to do stuff himself, or even get scenes that don't involve Marinette, why would you make him the male lead and everything in the Miraculous world connect back to him???

Wanna why know why Gabriel's Hawkmoth? Emily's death! But well actually, she only died because of Adrien. Why's Lila a villain? Well, she had a spat with Marinette! Over what, you ask? Adrien. Ah yes, Felix, our dear fandom's most inconsistent character like seriously why the hell did he go from being angry his cousin didn't attend his dads funeral and calling love confessions sappy to being glad his dad is dead and randomly breaking into song resident jerk, he actually does stuff for change!! Why's he here? Well, actually he's Adrien's cousin

But, does Adrien actually do anything with this (I'd say information after this but lets be real, he has none)? Nope, sir/ma'am, nothing at all!! He never learns his father is Hawkmoth and his father never learns he's Chat Noir. Jury's out on Lila but so far, hd does absolutely nothing at all.

Well, what about Felix? You'd think that, with a character so intertwined with him, they'd actually do something with it? Give them a few scenes? Maybe actually have Adrien talk or maybe even punch some sense into his cousin for vanishing the entire world besides like three people? Give the duo some scenes? Actually address what Felix did after his introduction? Show Felix breaking him and Kagami out of Gabriel's white rooms? Nope, lets just shove Felix to the side with Kagami, and forget about him unless we have an episode which requires a jerk character, since literally none of the good guys fit that role!!

Honestly, even leaving aside the stuff abiut wasted character moments, it feels like Adrien's been relegated to like the third or fourth most important character in the show. Marinette and Alya are wayyy above him at this point. Lila can take another spot albeit hesitantly since she clearly has more focus and plot relevance than him.

Marinette didn't even give Chat Noir a kwatagama to remember her by (if Alya can have one, so can he, he was Mister Bug, remember?). He doesn't even know about the Alya is the next Guardian stuff. Literally no one does. If Marinette does have something happen to her and she gives up the guardianship, why would anyone even listen to Alya!?!? Chat Noir outranks her by seniority alone, Carapace isn't even that close behind in terms of that and most importantly, she's never led them, she's never made battle plans, she hasn't been there from the start like Chat Noir, not everyone's fought with her probably, and they've never been made aware of this little back-up plan. Who's to say she isn't a Miraculous thief, huh? What if she stole the box and killed Ladybug? They have nothing to go off of except her word.

The writers probably don't even know how to use Adrien now that the crush arc of the show is over. Everyone's saying that he's obviously getting a big build-up, but what if they just "Catwalker" this and make it so that this is all "resolved" in a single episode and they all go back to the status quo with the slight change with the slight change that everyone is more subservient to Marinette and now recognises her brilliance or whatever.

Like, I was trying to figure out how to properly showcase what I think is wrong with Adrien’s character, why I think he’s less of a character than ever before, even when he gets a whole episode revolving around his family. So, here’s the Animus Litmus Test of Is The Love Interest a Real Person

Does the character have an actual conversation (aka, the speaker is changed at least twice) with someone other than their significant other?

Is this conversation about something other than their significant other?

Does this conversation take place in a scene that doesn’t feature the significant other at any point?

Does the character have any goal outside of “be with the significant other”?

Like, supposedly Adrien should have a conversation in 'Werepapas' with someone other than Marinette about something other than how much he wants to stay with Marinette, but, like, this is the episode that teased the audience with Plagg getting to show up, only to not just exclude Plagg, but to exclude Adrien himself from the Akuma fight so that he can be shoved inside a literal trophy while Marinette plays with his life like an object.

Corpse Conjux: Chapter 2

(Special Valentines Update❤️💐🍫✨️!!!)

Optimus gave a heavy groan as his optics fluttered open slowly, his vision wavering before a single large optic blinked at him “A NEW ARRIVAL”!!!

The young noble gasped as he startled fully awake, he could make out now numerous people gathered around him but the only one he recognized was the towering figure that had stalked him through the woods.

But surprisingly the shadowy nightmarish figure that he thought was surely after his soul, was instead leaning down at him with concerned red optics.

“He must have fainted” he said, tenderly placing one servo under Optimus head as he pulled him up.

“Are you alright”? The large grey corpse like mech asked.

“Wha-what happened”? Optimus managed to sputter out.

Before the mech holding him could answer, the same large optic was in front of him again along with its overly large owner “Lord Megatron! Your Conjux Seems To Be Still Living”!

The mech holding him let him go to gently push the other away from Optimus “Yes, Lugnut, I’m aware” he sighed.

Suddenly a small red and white mech pushed forward wearing chef's attire, with wide front denta stretched in a smile and cracked shades over his optics he gave an appreciative whistle at Optimus.

“Ooooh, does he have a dead brother”?

The mech, Megatron pushed him away as well “Be polite, Swerve”

But try as he might, the large mech couldn’t keep another member of the crowd at bay as an even smaller bot, a cassette, dodge pass to lean close to Optimus and pat at his chest plate.

“He’s still soft” they remarked matter of factly.

“Rumble: no need for rudeness”! A mechanical voice scolded from the crowd.

Optimus' breath hitched as he took a good look at the little bot, seeing them covered in missing pieces of armor and their spark plate exposed to show nothing inside. Scrambling up, Optimus noticed in growing horror that he was what looked like a bar and all the bots surrounding him, from the mechs to femmes, were covered in an assortment of wounds and cracked armor. Their paint colors dulled and discolored as if they were…as if they were corpses.

“A toast then”! He saw a yellow minibot call out, so cheerful and upbeat as he swung a large goblet of energon despite having a large sword driven through his tank.

Less cheerful though when after a sip the sword was pulled out by a large warframe mech whose face-plate literally twisted in a cackle at the annoyed look the minibot gave him.

Only to smother it away as his face changed to a calmer deathly pale face-plate to give the minibot a kiss. 

“To the newlywedz”!

“Newlyweds”?!! Optimus gasped looking at Megatron.

The mech in question smiled once more, using his ruined arm to grasp Optimus gently by the shoulders “In the woods you said your vows so perfectly”.

“I did”? The young noble gulped as he saw the oversized ring his sire had given him, now on the skeletal servo of a corpse that was apparently now his conjux!

“I always had a fondness for poetry, both in life and now in death” Megatron said with an affectionate voice.

“I did…” Optimus repeated before ripping himself away from Megatron's embrace before grasping the edge of a nearby bar booth and banging his helm against it.

“WAKE-UP! WAKE-UP”! He begged, wanting all of this to be a terrible nightmare. Some pre-ceremony jitters before he was set to marry Prowl.

He only stopped when he felt heavy cold hands grasp him again.

“Stop that, you’ll hurt yourself sweet-spark” said Megatron.

Optimus was going to turn around and make a storm about this walking corpse speaking so familiar to him, till he heard a series of thumps make they’re way towards him on the table. Looking over he saw to his amazement a large blue metallic cube bounce awkwardly against the bar.

 “Coming-through, coming-through”! A voice said from within the cube, before jumping high and stretching out into a lithe blue speedster.

The young noble flinched at the numerous cracks and crushed metal of the bot as they grasped his hands to shake his servo.

“The-name-is-Blurr” they said speedily “And-I-am-the-head-waiter-and-the-mech-who-will-be-planning-your-wedding-feast”!

“Hey, don’t take all the credit Blurr”! the mech, Swerve, called out.

“Yeah”! Said another minibot, with faded white armor and standing beside a larger purple mech. Both wore the same chef's uniform as Swerve.

A large blue bot with a yellow visor walked forward, with several ruined cassette bots huddled over his shoulder with mischievous grins.

“Soundwave: salivating”

This was finally enough for Optimus as he yanked his hand out of Blurs grasp and fumbled backwards in a panic.

“Keep away”! He demanded, pushing himself from the walking offline bots.

All the bots optics in the room were on him, their graying discolored optics. Optimus scrambled for a weapon, fearing the horde of corpses. He barely registered the sword handle he picked up as he waved it in front of the crowd-

“I got a-a-”!

And realized it had the yellow bot from earlier

“-I got a minibot” he continued lamely “And I’m not afraid to use him! Now I want questions”!

“Answers” the yellow minibot corrected, not looking the least bit bothered from being dangled on the weapon Optimus was holding “I think you mean answers, my bot”

“Thanks, yes, answers”! Optimus politely said “I need answers! What's going on here”?! He yelled to Megatron “Where am I? And who even are you”!

For once the large grey mech face-plate broke into an awkward expression.

“Well, that's kind of a long story” he mumbled.

“And What A Story It Is”! A voice rang out.

Optimus and everyone's optics shifted to a corner of the room featuring a stage, where a red and orange mech stood. The young nobleman tank lurched as he saw the mech covered in several painful looking rust lesions and sores. 

 But that didn’t diminish the confident smile he threw to the audience who cheered him on.

“A tale of romance, passion, and murder most foul”!

“This is going to be good, you're going to love Rodimuses shows”! Bumblebee said excitedly, Optimus set the minibot down briskly.

“Hit it my bots”! Said the bot named Rodimus, snapping his fingers and sending dust of rust to flake off.

A series of bots arrived on stage making macabre forms of musical sounds from their creaking bodies while one member of their party began to play the piano. Rodimus glided on stage as he continued to rub at his rust covered arms, Optimus metal shuddered as pieces began to sprinkle the floor.

“Hey! Give me a listen, my dead femmes and mechs

Optics up here! Keep your audibles bent!

I'll tell you a story that'll make a sparkling bawl,

Of our own jubiliciously lovely dead, Mega-tron”!~

The mechs on stage began to sway and dance as they sang in a chorus before a stage light glowed exclusively down at Megatron.

“Die, die,

We all offline someday!

You don’t need to cry,

Cause it's really okay!

You might try to hide,

 and you might try to pray,

But we all end up the remains of the day”!~

Optimus tried to take this chance to scamper away but the three faced mech that the yellow minibot was dancing with, grabbed his arm to keep him still.

“Well there was a general,

known from miles around-”~

To the young nobles' amazement the rust on the floor began to shift and gather up in the air, forming images against the lights and shadows to form a visual story.

“-when a mysterious stranger came into town.

He was plenty good looking! 

But down on his cash”~

The silhouettes shifted to the rough form of Megatron and leaning besides him was a winged figure that felt oddly familiar to Optimus.

“And our poor dear mech?

He fell hard and fast!

But when his sire said no!

He just couldn’t cope!

So the lover came up with a plan to elope”!~

Soon the crowd began to join in the singing as well, dancing and swaying as they repeated the chorus. The mechs on stage were even using their own bodies as elaborate instruments, taking off limbs to use as trumpets, taping their own ruined metal chassis, and even opening their own platting to strum their wires that once ran with life-giving energon. 

“Die, die,

We all offline someday!

You don’t need to cry,

Cause it's really okay!

You might try to hide,

 and you might try to pray,

But we all end up the remains of the day”!~

Optimus was soon forced into the gruesome dance, being pulled this way and that by different fembots and mechs. With the singer, Rodimus himself, pulling him this way and that in elaborate fashions before jumping back on stage and bringing Megatron with him.

“So they conjured up a plan to meet late at night!

They told not a soul, kept the whole thing tight

Now in his sires ceremony cloth fit like a glove,

you don't need much when you're really in love!

Except for a few things, or so I'm​ told

Like the family jewels and a satchel of gold”!~

The rust shifted creating a scene of the shadow Megatron waiting by a twisted tree, looking back and forth, obviously waiting for someone.

“Then next to the graveyard by the old oak tree,

on a dark foggy night at a quarter to three.

That mech was ready to go, but where was he?

Suddenly the crowd stopped their joyful dancing as they huddled close to Optimus and whispered in unison in hushed tones.

“And then”?

“He waited”~

“And then"?

“There in the shadows, was it his mech?~

“And then”?

“His spark beat so loud” ~

“And then”?

Rodimus hesitated, looking sadly as he made the rust flakes form a sinister winged shadow engulfing the form of Megatron.

“And then, my mechs, everything went black” ~

The whole room went dark for a click before a light shone, showing Rodimus sitting on top of the piano.

“Now when his opened his optics he was gray as dust,

His jewels were missing, and his spark was bust”! ~

Rodimus jumped up approaching Optimus, pulling him close as he continued to sing.

“So he made a vow lying under that tree,

that he'd wait for his true love to come set him free

Always waiting for someone to ask for his spark”~

Rodimus then pushed Optimus towards Megatron who the crowd made space for. Megatron offered a smile as he held out the same ruined servo with his family's ring.

“When out of the park,

comes this groovy young mech!

Who vows forever to be by his,

Till dusk and dawn”~

Optimus was suddenly launched forward into Megatron's arms who spun him around quickly, till he fell to the floor as Megatron's arm collapsed. Optimus slapped it away as it clung onto his waist, and he hastily got up. Then, like a long-awaited prayer, he spotted a staircase and readily made his way towards it while passing the corpses who were once again dancing.

“And that's the story of our own,

 Mega-tron”!~

He caught Rodimus' last line as he raced up the stairs and just as he slammed the door open, but just before he made it outside he heard Megatron cry out his name.

“Optimus”!

But he was determined to keep going, to find some way to escape this nightmare.

why do you hate Joshua Graham or Honest Hearts so much?

This DLC and character represents a bigger issue with fandom spaces I have but particularly fallout fandom in general.

Fallout tends to tackle a lot of topics controversial and not. The first two games it’s heavy cause they are the most satirical and direct with how anti-war, nationalism and etc… they are. 3 loses this as it’s very clear once you play or learn about all the games that Todd and a bunch of guys at Bethesda just liked the 50s post apocalyptic aesthetic and refuse to actually critique the ideals of the time period like the earlier titles.

New Vegas is the game that really gets back into it a degree it almost seems like it’s taking too much on. There are things done exceedingly well while other things are done horribly wrong . I’ve made posts about it before and plan to make a big series of posts (it’s a lot of writing) but my biggest gripe is with Honest Hearts and all the gross and white savior esque depictions it has of indigenous peoples. The entirety if FNV does not do the injustices faced by indigenous people correctly on any count. My two biggest complaints are with the Khans and the tribes in Zion but I’ll talk about the former on a different post.

Both characters of Daniel and Joshua are the most accurate depiction of white saviors I’ve seen and I hate how the DLC tries to justify and defend them. The DLC treats Joshua like this man who has repented for his past actions when he is just retracing his steps after his cruelty bit him in the ass. He was one of the worst parts of the Legion and it is all but explicitly stated that if you don’t force him to be non-violent he will turn the tribes of Zion into the legion 2.0. The Dead Horses and the Sorrows are horribly infantilized by both Daniel and Joshua who both use them for self serving purposes guised by religious duty. The White Legs are the horrible stereotype of violent and savage indigenous and I personally think a lot of their interlinking with Ulysses, his hair and Ulysses character in general are distasteful and very telling of how BIPOC or POC where involved.

But outside of the game it’s the weird obsession people have with these characters ideologies and trying to make them seem more interesting/philosophical than they are. Tumblr is an echo chamber and many fans of Fallout are not the people on this site. Many people are not educated in the issues these characters convey and how poorly they do or used these characters as a poor introduction for their takes. Contrary to what a lot of people believe in, fallout has a prediomeny white cis male fanbase. More importantly a large portion of the fanbase is white.

You can joke how FNV made you trans or see the numbers on post/fics or diverse headcanons but these are kiddy numbers compared to the millions that consume the franchise and aren’t in those more aware spaces or don’t engage in the spaces the same way someone like me does/has to. Their views shape a lot more than people realize and it’s exhausting to be in a space where people don’t correct the more subtle yet toxic aspects of it but also adopt them into some weird quirky view point on the characters or issues. Some people don’t realize and some people don’t care.

My main issue is just the idolizing of these sort of thing in this fandom space and people try to acts like a game like fallout whose tagline is “War never changes” and has never had a game not revolve around political or militaristic factions issues isn’t that deep or doesn’t relate to real issues. I think it’s mainly caused by how over powered you can become and how you can strong arm your way past these learning moments as majority of people who play this game do play it as a power fantasy where they can do so as they please (which of course, go ahead it’s fun) but never take in parallels or lessons in the story as if it was just another first person shooter.

Also like another personal gripe is Cazadores spawn like hell whenever I’m there and I have not found a mod that works to mod them out so I have to play Indigenous Racism the DLC while getting jumped by giant wasps WHILE helping Mormons. Like I cannot catch a break.

In other news: I’m having a Physical Response to RWD and its habit of traumatizing VR-LA in ways I can relate to in uncomfortable ways. Not only did the episode where he was cursed with madness and thought everyone hated him for a few weeks rewrite my brain chemistry and completely rebuild the way I talk to my family, but once when I was seventeen, I had what to me was an incredibly long dream (hallucination???) indistinguishable from reality. I had two extra limbs (wings pog) and was on the run from the government for a long time. I, a long-standing qp partner, and several close friends in a sort of underground royal-guard-esque paramilitary group. (Long story) At the time I woke up I could barely remember what year it was, who or where I was, and why my back hurt So Dang Much (missing limbs will do that to you). I spent the next year or so gradually loosing those memories and compulsively rolling and tensing my back because I could feel limbs that weren’t there. I can now barely remember anything from that dream except a few strong emotions and the tendency to get phantom pains in not-my-shoulders-but-right-above-them. Noir, if you see this: VR-LA and I are second-life buddies now, I have decided. I hope you know what you’ve done to this poor man. He’s gonna have the weirdest habits for the rest of his life and he’s literally never gonna be able to explain them.
